R.I.P. Helen Sprayson

As many of you may know, Helen Sprayson recently took ill with a brain tumour and has been hospitalized for sometime. Her husband Steve, has been in touch with Quinte Twirler Barb Lumbers to keep us up to date. Last week he informed Barb that by the next time we finish a night of dancing, Helen will be gone.....
Little did we know, last night while the Quinte Twirlers were starting this weeks dance, Helen had closed her eyes and went to dance with the Angels.......

Adolphustown Jamboree August 13

This year there will be a Square Dancing Demo at the Jamboree....
dancing between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm. A more percise time will be available sooner to the date. It will be at the Adolphustown UEL Campground. For more information please contact Gayle or Berry at 613-968-9614. More info to follow.....

DEMO Saturday July 9th 3:00 pm

We are looking for dancers for Sat. July 9th sometime between 1:30 and 5:30 during open mic segment at the Country Roads Jamboree in Napanee. (at fair grounds) Dancers need to wear dance attire as this is a show demo . Level will be mainstream. Also wear their club badge .  Berry will be promoting all clubs as you never know where people may be from . Just tell the gate people your an entertainer, the dancers can stick around and listen to the music to follow. I  expect we will dance somewhere around 3pm.

Relay 4 Life was Awesome!!!!

Belleville Relay 4 Life consisted of 70 teams of 10 or more one each team. We raised over  253,000 dollars for Cancer Research.

A group of us will be participating in the Relay for Life this year for the 12 hour event. We do hope that enough of our Square Dancing friends will catch a bit of shut eye and come out and Square Dance with us at 2:00 am on the grounds at Loyalist College..... it is a small gesture to make towards a goal of saving lives......

Quinte Twirlers held Graduation Ceremonies last week - pictures to follow....

April 29th there is an Old Time Square Dance at the Allisonville Hall starts at 8:00 pm

May 1st the Quinte Twirlers Apple Blossom is moving in fast. We will be at the old location for this, contact quintetwirlers@gmail.com.

May 6th the Napanee Pioneers are having a Pot Luck and Plant Sale dance at the St. Mary Magdalen Church in Napanee.... starts at 7:30, bring your own eating utensils.

May 17 to June 21 Berry and Gayle Chumbley are organizing a 6 week Mainstream program, it is 36.00 pp and will be held at the Prince Charles School on Graham St. in Napanee.

June 17th is coming fast, help us support Cancer Research by pledging the Quinte Square Dance Team in the Relay for Life.

If you are able to walk for an hour at a time, stay up and party all night (clean partying) and possibly Square Dance in the grass at 2 am.... then come and join us... First Open House Night a GREAT Success!

We had 5 Squares on the floor for a beginners call..... now that is a successful night. Thank you to all the new dancers that joined us. We had a great time teaching you the moves..... Hope to see everyone next week at the same time.

PIERRE BLAIS 1937-2011 ---- R.I.P. DEAR FRIEND

Pierre Blais of the Quinte Twirlers passed away at BGH on Thursday, March 31st at the age of 74. He will be missed in our earth bound squares but he will be a bright twirling star in heaven.

A service will take place on Tuesday, April 5 at 2:00 pm at the Belleville Funeral Home on North Front St. If you are unable to make it, you may leave a message for the family at the link below.

What a Bad Night to be out and about!!!!!!

We headed out last night and stopped to go shopping... son's birthday today.... I didn't leave it till the last minute, we were out last weekend and on Tuesday night as well.... teenagers are so hard to buy for.... anyway, back to square dancing.... by the second store, I realized I had no shoes with me and the roads were very slippery. I was soon done for and just wanted to go home...

I was totally shocked that there was a dance, since most things were canceled but some brave souls traveled out in the mess just to dance.... Kudos!

However, we (Doug & I) both work and we don't get messages till after 5:30. Our number is listed for information about the club, however, we are not the best to call if you need an immediate answer.

Another Fun Week of Dancing

Square Dancing is great for the mind..... last Wednesday night I just wanted to curl up with a good book....
My van is dying of old age, soon I will be out of job as my contract is ending and nothing new has come up, I am still suffering from pain in my hip and waiting for the doctor to get back to me.... really not in a mood for fun.... but we headed out to the weekly dance and you know what.......
Once the music starts and we get dancing, I'm laughing and having such a good time and for 2 hours I totally forget about all the bad stuff happening.....
Square Dancing is so good for the soul.....

Event starts at 1pm at the Enterprise Town Hall. We have been asked to dress in square dance attire, and we are asking dancers to wear something red and white for valentines theme. We will be dancing around 2:30pm dancers should be there a little earlier than that you can come for the whole thing .It ends at around 4:30 or 5pm.

Project Quinte Twirlers....

This past week we welcomed Loyalist College Photojournalism student Melissa out to our dance. She spent a good amount of time taking pictures of the crowd in action for one of her assignments.

Word has spread and we are a HOT subject, more students have shown an interest and not just from Loyalist. This is awesome, we get to help out an upcoming photographer and they give us a bit of publicity. Besides, we love to have company at our dances... we are such a friendly bunch.

On another note.... Thank you to all who have responded to the survey regarding the new hall. We do have a few members who have issues with the hall, whether it be health related or other. However, the executive have met and made the following observations:

Due to the high cost of the Thurlow Community Center, (Harmony Rd.) it is not feesible to return. However, we have booked it for our Apple Blossom, as it is a well known location.

We are going to stay put for the time being as this hall is a great price. We have approached our landlord with the issues that were brought forth by members.

We will keep our eyes open for a new location. However, we won't be moving further west, but would like to stay as close to the 401 as possible. The only suggestions of halls provided were the Fosterward Community Center and St. Joseph's Church, both in Belleville. We are also looking again at schools.

For the most part a kitchen is not necessary. It only serves a purpose twice a year when we have catered meals. As it stands right now, we do not have use of the kitchen, it is an extra charge on those occassions.

We are not willing to raise our fees at this time, so admission remains at $6.00.

Thank you again everyone for taking the time to provide us with feedback on the hall.
