Square Dancing in Quinte Facebook Group

http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=128311260532681

I started a Facebook Group for all us Square Dancers in the area that use Facebook. For me my morning coffee isn't the same without facebook and keeping up with all my friends and family. I have some pictures and videos posted on this group.

I have been working on the Tweed Stampede Rodeo. We will be in the banquet hall upstairs overlooking Stoco Lake. It really is a nice place with wood dance floor. We have asked that the bar remains closed, you can bring your own drinks or there will be refreshment stands on the grounds.

If you are coming for the dance only, show your club badge at the door and it will be $10 per person. If you want to see the events at the park (Rodeo) you can get a day pass for $20 at the gate and this will get you into everything but the big concerts at 8:00 pm.

If you are a camper and you want to take in the whole weekend, there is special pricing for this that is handled by the Rodeo organizers. Anyone with a Rodeo pass, this includes the Square Dance. Only those who are coming just for the dance need to pay at the door, anyone with a Rodeo pass the dance is free as part of the Rodeo. The Dance is for 4 hours.

This weekend is Track Two To Tweed. I would love it if someone that is going could please post an update on here and the Facebook Group for those of us who are unable to attend.

Next Tuesday (July 6) we will be dancing in Napanee.... hope to see you there.

Until next time

A great article on Square Dancing......

Well it's Tuesday morning and I think we will be heading to a Mission in Napanee tonight to join some friends for a square dance, hope others will come along too.....

Doug was web surfing and found this article in the Wall Street Journal, of all places on square dancing. I would copy it here, but that would be some sort of copyright infringement, so here is the link. It is well worth the read. As some of the discussion board writers point out I don't think the reporter did much research on square dancing, but either way it makes sense.

We have heard back from the Ameliasburg fair board and we have been invited to do an hour long dance demo at the fair. This will be on Saturday, October 2, hope we can get at least 2 squares out to dance with us..... more details to follow on this.

I hope to see all my dancing friends throughout the summer...

Until the next time....

These teens really like to get out and kick up their heels at the Old Tyme Dances. They make it so much fun.

Our Annual Apple Blossom Dance packed the hall.

These are our graduates for 2010. Well the ones that could make it out for cake that is...

Another Season of Dance comes to a Close....

It has been some time since I have written in this blog, sorry about that, but life and my computer tend to have their own agendas from time to time.

The Quinte Twirlers had a great year from Sept to May. We had a good crowd each week and we thank our members for being there this year.

Our Apple Blossom Dance was a great success again this year. We had scheduled Norm Wilcox from Peterborough as our guest caller, however he was unable to attend due to illness. Everyone at the Quinte Twirlers Club wishes Norm a speedy recovery. Dave Williamson filled in for Norm and did an excellent job, we thank Dave for being there and for making it a great afternoon.

Doug and I made an appearance at the Trenton Squares and Pairs Club for the annual Valentines Day dance. Even though we are not completely done our "Plus" teachings we managed to make it through, with a little help from our friends.... we had a great night.

We also tried to get off to dance with the Napanee Pioneers Club as much as possible on Friday evenings. We always have a good time with our friends in Napanee and they have a 50's / 60's dance that is just "Out of this World, Man.... Groovy". Even Elvis makes an appearance for this one!

In April we headed up to Peterborough for the Spring Spree and as usual it was a blast. We have such a great time, however with 2 rooms (2 levels) of dance to choose from, it is so hard to decide. We found ourselves running from room to room in between calls. It's all in fun....

A group from our club headed out to the Alzheimer's Volunteer Luncheon and did a little show for them. Many in the audience enjoyed the dancing and had questions for the dancers. This is an important part of the club. We have to keep getting out there and promoting Square Dancing when ever possible, besides it fun too....

We even took time out this spring to head over the bridge to Prince Edward County. A little hamlet outside of Wellington called Allisonville. There isn't much left, but once a month the Allisonville hall is hoppin with an old time fiddle band and old time square dancing. Mind you we don't enjoy it as much as modern square dance, but the crowd we dance with is so different. I think there was a 6 year old in one square and yes she knew her stuff. We always have a good time at these dances, even though we don't know the moves, they teach as they go....

We are now on break for the summer.... but not really..... there are a few places you can find us dancing and I will fill you all in on this shortly.... I will also post some photos.

Until I see you all again.
